Today we are looking at an interesting blogging theme named Pravda, it places an emphasis on your content with a nicely styled grid layout for your blog posts. It also has support for WooCommerce so you can use it to run an online shop.
It has a load of styling options accessed via a custom options panel and a lot of indidual post styling options which lets you tailor each post with custom backgrounds, individual background colors and post colors.
The theme also has a review system so you can add star ratings to posts and the rating will be formatted for Schema Microdata so your review posts will show up in Google with star ratings next to them to encourage click throughs to your site.

Theme Setup and Options
After activating the theme you are prompted to install 3 plugins – Meta Box, Ajax Thumbnail Rebuild and a private CT Shortcodes plugin.
If you wish to add demo content to your site, there is a separate folder with the theme download which contains xml files for posts only, products only or both sets of data. The next step is to visit the theme options panel under Appearance > Pravda Options and choose which style of homepage you would like. You can choose to show a specific category or all posts, then you can choose how many columns you would like to display and whether you want a sidebar added left or right. You can also choose the pagination type and a boxed or wide layout.
The next part you should look at is the header options tab, this contains a very comprehensive set of options for tweaking your header design. From here you can make the following changes:
- Boxed or Wide
- Top Padding / Bottom Padding
- Background color / Background Image
- Predefined Background Images
- Logo Upload
- Logo Text / Slogan
- iOS Icons
You can choose to have a welcome block at the top of your homepage which can contain a welcome message or call to action, this is how it looks :
You can set the text and color options here also or hide the block completely.
There are sections for Blog Settings, Single Page settings and WooCommerce Settings which allow you to completely tweak these pages to your liking. Some of the options on offer are as follows:
- Full Content or Excerpt
- Meta Background Color
- Font Styling
- Thumbnail Options
- Show / Hide various elements such as date, author, likes etc
The Footer options lets you choose a background color and enter copyright text and additional information.
The Twitter tab lets you enter authentication details for a Twitter app so you can display your tweets within the site.
Finally, you have a backup system which lets you backup all your settings from the options panel should you wish to keep a copy or import them into a nother site.
Individual Post Settings
What I like a lot about this theme is fine control over each post that it gives you, on every post underneath the content area you have options to add a background image, select a background color, tweak the font options and set the excerpt length.
It also includes controls so you can choose different post types, set videos, audio player, photo galleries and so on.
And finally you have a full review system built-in which will include Schema Microdata for search engine results. You can give it star ratings in the color of your choice, set different criteria for the review and so on. I do think this part of the theme should have been included as a plugin because if you switch themes you are going to lose the data you enter here.
How The Theme Looks
3 Column Homepage;
Single Page with custom background and colors:
eCommerce Product Page :
Pravda costs $58 for a regular license and is released under a split-GPL license meaning that :
This theme or plugin is comprised of two parts.
(1) the PHP code and integrated HTML are licensed under the General Public
License (GPL). You will find a copy of the GPL in the same directory as this
(2) All other parts, but not limited to the CSS code, images, and design are
licensed according to the license purchased from Envato.
This is a solid theme which is not overly complicated – its easy to install and everything is contained within the theme options panel so you can tweak a large number of options to get it looking how you want. There is a large amount of control over individual posts so you could use it for a magazine style website with different looks for each post – tailoring the post colors and background images to fit the article.
The review system is a nice inclusion but could do with being presented as a separate plugin to avoid theme “lock-in” this is a trivial thing to acomplish as the theme already prompts you to activate plugins on initial installation.
Take a look at Pravda for a well-coded and un-complicated magazine or blogging style theme.
